What is Imani Rites of
Passage?
Imani
Rites of Passage
is an educational, therapeutic, recreational and cultural enrichment
program designed to foster the development of positive self-image
and competence in young people by introducing them to their cultural
heritage and positive coping strategies that prevent or avert risky
behaviors.
Our main preoccupation
is that contemporary society does not offer our boys and girls the
appropriate initiation rites and rituals to facilitate their
transition from one stage of development to another. Hence, our
comprehensive guidance and developmental programs aimed at helping
to ease children through their inevitable transitions.
At Imani Rites of Passage we use the psycho-educational group
approach that combines the use of cognitive, emotive and behavioral
techniques for providing young people with hope, support and
encouragement, which in turn, enhances their life skills aimed
at helping them avoid or overcome possible self-defeating behaviors
that can diminish the effectiveness of their lives.
A value-based, cognitive cultural model of identity development
is used in IROP to address the interrelated academic, emotional and
developmental needs of children. The primary hypothesis is that
value-based socialization helps participants enhance their cultural
identity. This in turn helps them with the development and or
improvement of their academic and social skills which invariably
results in the reduction of risks of aggression and violence.
Children
are our future.
They deserve our care and protection. We invite you to invest in our
community's future by supporting our innovative, collaborative and
outcome-based ROP program. Help us to raise the funds required for
teaching, defending, nurturing and protecting father-absent
children, thus giving them a fighting chance at having a brighter
tomorrow and a more fulfilling future.
How we care for children, protect their wellbeing and prepare them
for the future depends to a large extent on financial resources.
Get involved: If you do nothing, nothing happens. Get
involved and you will feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that
comes from knowing you are working to give father-absent children a
